Let’s admit it, plagiarists are everywhere. Especially on Internet where Ctrl C and Ctrl V is a part of its practice. You may grateful when someone said your post is awesome and he then repost it on his own blog. But you know what, when he did that, your post and his are considered as copied content by duplication detector software. Though it is not a plagiarism, unless he did not mention your name, this might bring disadvantage to you in Google SERP (Search Engine Result Pages). It’s bad. To deal with something like this in Internet is never be easy. However, instead of wrap it up with legal action, you can deal with more elegantly. In the real world, we have copyright law. That can be bring to cyber world too: “You copied me, you’ll face the court!” But the essence of Internet is sharing. Think about it, what would the Internet be if we all are forbidden to share and copy-paste? So, I think there is another way to deal with the duplicators. I wrapped up my idea to a simple presentation below. Ide tulisan ini terpantik dari komen seseorang. Dia meminta saya menjadi pembaca pertama bagi naskah [...]

Lan Fang, in memoriam Indonesian literary circles mourn following the unexpected death of a prolific writer namely Lan Fang on X-mas yesterday. Lan Fang was born in Banjarmasin, South Borneo, on March 5, 1970. She is first of two daughters of the late Johnny Gautama and Yang Mei Ing. She had her first short story published in Anita Cemerlang magazine in 1986. She was a prolific writer, be for novels and short stories. But now she can no longer write. So long, Lan Fang…. * * * “Lan Fang, the wrong man or the man who is wrong?”

Have you, as a fiction author, ever been asked by people pretended to know everything about work of writing and publishing? Were you boxed into a corner by those questions? I was. I have ever faced few “judges” like that. But I never give a damn, ha-ha. I have a list of what did my friends negatively say about work of fiction. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to translate those into English. But I bet you already knew things like: all fiction writers are liar, a words waster, ones who live in imagination without seeing the real world, blah. Insignificant accusations that can be easily countered. * * * Teman-teman saya secara terpisah pernah menanyai kenapa saya menulis fiksi? Sebenarnya saya juga menulis nonfiksi. Tulisan-tulisan saya lebih sering nonfiksi, bahkan. Namun tetap saya jelaskan kenapa saya menulis fiksi. Lalu mereka pun menanggapi. Beberapa positif, beberapa negatif. Apa pembelaan Saudara? Saya mengakuinya, Yang Mulia. Tapi itu adalah [...]

Do you want to share books and knowledge to others? To organize your reading materials? To familiarize your family (especially children in the house) to see and to love books? To be considered as an intellect? Whatever it is, build a personal library is indeed a good idea. And here are things you need to think before: Room. You need to consider a room which is spacious enough to put the cabinets, tables, chairs, and for few people to pass by within. Provide some good ventilation as well. Cabinet. Choose cabinets in shelves model, not a wardrobe model, so fit to put your book collection and easy to classify. Archiving. Record your entire collection at least: title, author, publisher, published years, genre, brief description, date purchased/acquired, and library code. * * * Apa alasan orang ingin membuat perpustakaan pribadi?

Do you make a skeleton before writing your work of fiction? I do. It is important for me. The skeleton is like a railroad that makes the machinist saves his time from thinking all the time, “Where do I go after this station?” You can say, skeleton for a novel is the same as scenario for a movie. The audience does not need it, but the storymakers do. I love to use a mind mapping method. It is more practical and flexible. Have you known it? It is just like the picture I borrow from Mindmap.com beside. And, design something like that is painless. First of all, prepare a large sheet of paper and markers in various colors. Then, just follow where your brain goes: Write or draw the main idea in the middle of paper. Use a variety of colors. Write the sub ideas as a branch. Continue to develop the branch’s branches. If there are sub ideas associate with another, do not hesitate to connect them with line. In my opinion, you should separate a mind map for characters and for plot. There is no standard of excellence in mind mapping. As long as it helps you a [...]
