Lying on Matras Beach

Matras-beach-rocks!If I’m tired, I used to lying on my bed. But this time, it is not enough. Maybe it is because my bed is too small and surrounded by walls. I need a wider place where I can breathe the refreshingly air, look at the blue sky. Hmm, a beach could be the right one. I can go to Pangandaran, Pelabuhan Ratu, Anyer, Ancol, anytime. But I desire to go to another beach in Indonesia. Maybe Matras Beach at Bangka Island.

Matras Beach lies in Sinar Jaya Village, Sungailiat Sub-district, Bangka District, Bangka-Belitung Province. It’s about 40 km from Pangkalpinang. It is two kilometers in length with around 20 to 30 meters wide where some leafy coconut trees welcome you.

There are hotels and travel services around there. Transportation? Cars or taxi are recommended. You may start the trip from Sungailiat or Pangkal Pinang. It is approximately an hour from Pangkal Pinang passing by winding road.

People say that the beach has very smooth white sands. Wow! It means I can comfortably lie down my body there. They also say that the sea is very blue, as if it bounces the color of the sky. Maybe there is sea in the sky. Or the sea is the sky itself? Because of these amazing views, Matras Beach is also called Heaven Beach.

Many tourists came here, domestic or foreign. Well, I actually hate the location like this. I don’t need a crowd. But in Matras Beach, I can always be alone behind the big stones. You know, there are stunning coastal rocks and the water flowing from the river to the sea.

Or, while waiting for the beach to be calm again, I can walk around the beach without any footwear. The warm sand is good for health, right? Or, I look for souvenir and ethnic food or snack from Bangka. I’d like to taste kerupuk panggang ikan tenggiri (roasted chips from mackerel) and swallow nest.

Hmm, blue sky … sea … white sand … chain of stone… breeze …. [photos from RoadTripToParadise]

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
