5 Cents per Word for Speculative Fiction

Memory of the Future (by Raul Cruz)Feel like writing good speculative fiction? This is for you, then. Founded in September 2000, Strange Horizons is a weekly web-based magazine of and about speculative fiction. The term “speculative fiction” refers to what is more commonly known as sci-fi, but which properly embraces science fiction, fantasy, magic realism, slipstream, and a host of sub-genres. They want:

Pick up one of the literatures which published on last 10 years in Indonesia, analyze that within at least 20 pages (1.5 spaces) of A4. Send it in five copies to DKJ before September 30, 2009. I guess DKJ’s contest is highest rank in literary domain here. The prize is 61.5 million of rupiah at total.

Merantau poster

By Brahmanto Anindito

After hollow decades, finally Indonesia produced a well executed martial arts movie. Great! I have done with comedy-sex and horror genres here. Thanks to writer-director Gareth Huw Evans. Merantau is Indonesian traditional martial arts, pencak silat-based movie. Story set on Sumatra and Jakarta’s today, with Iko Uwais, a silat practitioner and newcomer in showbiz, as the main role.
